University of Lisbon prepares to EUC Athletics 2027

On June 11th, representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and Portugal University Sports Federation (FADU) met with the Rector of the University of Lisbon to discuss preparations for the inaugural edition of the European Universities Championships (EUC) in Athletics, scheduled to take place in 2027.

The meeting was hosted at the Rectorate of the University of Lisbon and attended by key institutional figures, including Luis Ferreira, Rector of the University of Lisbon, Luis Castro, Vice-Rector of the University of Lisbon, Bruno Barracosa, EUSA Vice-President, Ricardo Nora, President of FADU, and Francisco Garcia, Administrator of FADU.

During the visit, EUSA reiterated congratulations to the University of Lisbon on being an EUSA Associated Member, with special recognition as becoming the 100th institution to join the Programme in 2024.

Discussions focused on the EUC Athletics 2027, including infrastructure development, organisational planning, and stakeholder engagement. Particular emphasis was placed on the ongoing construction at the Cruz Serra Residence, which will triple current capacity and serve as the main accommodation site for participating athletes.
The meeting also addressed upgrades to the university’s athletic facilities to ensure high standards for the competition, reaffirming Lisbon’s commitment to delivering an outstanding event.

The University of Lisbon expressed its enthusiasm to welcome athletes from across Europe and to contribute to the advancement of university sports on the continent.
