#LetsIDUS and #BeActive coming soon

There is just a month to go until the annual FISU International Day of University Sport (IDUS) as well as the #BeActive European Week of Sport, with countries around the continent and globe gearing up for another memorable sporting period.

Officially proclaimed by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organisation (UNESCO), FISU’s International Day of University Sport takes place on September 20, with this year’s edition the fourth since the initiative began in 2016.

The day looks to create links between universities and their local communities focused around sport, physical activity and healthy living, providing a great opportunity to promote sporting activities and programmes in higher education institutions while also reaffirming the importance sport has in maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

Last year, 97 FISU member countries (57%) celebrated IDUS on five different continents, where 490 sports and recreational activities and 39 educational activities were organised, with Europe being the most active continent where activities ranged from basketball and football tournaments to tug-of-war competitions and rollerblade workshops, and more.

FISU encourages creative thinking and unique ways in which to celebrate IDUS, with the overall aim of developing university sport from grassroots to competition level, from local to international, and all members are encouraged to create their own #LetsIDUS celebration plan, or join an existing activity in their region.

Similarly, the European Week of Sport (EWOS) and the #BeActive campaign, initiated by the European Commission, also aims to promote sport and physical activity across Europe. Together with national coordinators and partner organisations, among them also EUSA as an official partner, the goal of the initiative is to make Europe healthier, but also help strengthen the continent in more way than one, based on our shared values and interests.

EWOS takes place annually between September 23 and 30 throughout Europe, with a number of varying activities, demonstrations and festivals promoting sport taking place around the continent.

This year marks the fifth annual edition of EWOS, and promises to be the biggest since it’s inception in 2015, with 47 partner associations in 41 countries taking part.

Added to this year’s activities is the #5minChallenge and #BeActive Night event which both promote physical activity – more information on these added campaigns can be found HERE.

Promoting #BeActive at #EUC2019

As an official partner of the #BeActive European Week of Sport, EUSA promotes the campaign at various events throughout the year, including during the recent European Universities Championships held at 15 different venues across Europe.
