Winter sport activities with contest opportunity
February is well underway, marked with winter sports - with the ongoing Winter Olympic Games, as well as the European Week of Winter Sport initiative.
The main focus of winter sport is currently on the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics as the top event, hosting 2900 athletes from 92 countries and territories, competing in 16 sports. Following the pilot activities in 2025, this February is also marked with activities of the European Week of Winter Sport, marked and celebrated across Europe. Over 300 events were announced to be held in 38 countries, eyeing over 100.000 grassroots participants actively engaged activities in winter - on snow, ice or outdoor in the colder climate.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) with its Institute actively participated in the campaign Europe-wide, and also with local activities in Slovenia, where EUSA offices are located. In cooperation with higher education institutions and academic sport bodies activities were organised in or nearby major university sports centers - Ljubljana, Maribor and Koper. In Ljubljana, ice-skating activity was organised in Tivoli Hall on February 5.

EUSA also co-hosted two winter hikes. The first one in Maribor, in form of a night hike to Pohorje on February 10, and the second one in the Primorska region, as a day hike to Slavnik on February 15.

There is still chance to celebrate winter sport! Until February 28, anyone can submit photos or videos capturing the spirit of winter sport - whether it’s about movement, community, sustainability, local tourism, or simply the joy of being active during winter. If you’ve taken part in any winter sport activity in the past month, or if someone in your network has shared a great winter sport moment, this is the perfect time to turn it into a story and share it with a wider audience.
Taking part is easy: publish your photo or video on Instagram, Facebook or YouTube, tag @wintersportweek, and submit the link through the official contest form. Every submission helps spread the message and values of winter sport and contributes to a growing European movement. Selected content will be featured across official EWWS communication channels and included in the main final report, while the overall winner will also be awarded a GoPro camera.
