What's up: Introducing the new EUSA Student Commission

This month’s student column focuses on the introduction of the members of the EUSA Student Commission which has been appointed end of the last year, after the elections of the EUSA Executive Committee.

EUSA Student Commission is one of the commissions with the longest traditions in the European University Sports Association. It is nominated on the proposal of the EUSA member associations. The mandate of the Student Commission is 2 years; the elected student representative of the Executive Committee being the Chair of the Student Commission.

Flobena Nikolli
My name is Flobena, I am the Chair of the EUSA Student Commission and member of the EUSA Executive Committee. I am a 22-year-old law graduate from Albania, currently doing my masters in Penal Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Tirana. I am very keen on sport; I like running and tennis and I am especially a big fan of hiking.

Flobena Nikolli (ALB)

I have come to EUSA with 4 years of Sports University management experience, at Albanian University Sports Federation. AUSF has been like a “second university” for me which raised and prepared me professionally. During this 4 year period, my experience has been extensive, on national and international level. I am proud to be able to name a few: EUSA European Universities Combat Championship Zagreb 2019: Volunteer; FISU Summer Universiade Napoli 2019: Head of Delegation for the Albanian team; FISU Leaders Academy Kazan 2019: Student Ambassador; European Week of Sport Beyond Borders by European Commission: Young Nominee.

Awena Guiner
My name is Awena, I’m 21 years old and I’m a master degree student at Sciences Po Toulouse in France. I study political sciences and public action, and I am particularly interested in studying sport and gender studies. I hope to specialize in these fields during a second master degree.

Awena Guiner (FRA)

I have always been very involved in University sport: as a basketball player, I am captain of the school’s team that plays in the regional competition. I also participated for several years in the organization of sports within my school: first as treasurer, then as president of the Sports Association of Sciences Po Toulouse, I met some incredible people and this is what pushed me to get even more involved. I am now Vice-president of the French University Sport Federation (FFSU), and I am more specifically in charge of the Gender Equality commission’ and in charge of major events - including programs linked to the organisation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This position within the EUSA Student Commission is thus a great opportunity, and an extension of my local and national projects, as I am convinced of the benefits of sharing cultures, and participating in a common future at a European level around the same passion of sport.

Jule Wagner
I am Jule, 24 years old and I live in Münster, Germany. In 2021 I finished my Master of Education with a main focus on Mathematics, German Language and Sports. Whilst studying, I worked for the University Sports Münster and was mainly responsible for organising different sport events for students.

Jule Wagren (GER)

Amongst other events I for example organised the university’s soccer league and a yearly tournament with more than 2000 participants coming from different universities in Germany and the Netherlands. Since I loved working in this operational field, I decided to support the German University Sports Federation (ADH) in preparing the Winter Universiade in 2019 and was able to be a part of the German organising committee. Due to this amazing experience, I decided to become more involved in FISU and EUSA to support university sports and help more students with combining both their studies and sports. Therefore I became FISU student ambassador in 2021 and can’t wait to get creative and support the EUSA students commission from now on. At the moment I am working for the city sports association Münster and part-time study sports economics. In my free time I love to go surfing, discover the mountains on my snowboard or casually play tennis with my friends.

Hampus Herne
My name is Hampus, I am 27 years old, and I’m currently studying in Sports Management in Malmö, Sweden. I’m a last year student and almost done with my bachelor’s degree.

Hampus Herne (SWE)

In my youth I played football, handball, tennis, golf and so many more sports but my focus these days are football, handball, and golf. I have both played and coached a football team during my student period, whilst also playing handball with a student team. I’ve also lived a couple of years in the U.S. where I played football and studied at Santa Barbara City College. By being active in both the American school system and the Swedish have given me a wide perspective of how university sport is handled. This will be my first time working with EUSA but I hope my experience in sports will help and contribute to the organisations goals. I believe that it’s important for students to be physically active while studying and my hope is that I can help people becoming just that. With that said I can’t wait to meet my colleagues in the EUSA Student Commission and get started!

Kadir Keskin
I am Kadir, 27 years old and I come from Turkey. I am a PhD student in sport and health science programme and working as a researcher in sport science at the University of Gazi. I am also a member of the discipline committee of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TUSF). In addition, I have been a student representative of SPORAK, quality board of Sport Sciences Association of Turkey since 2018.

Kadir Keskin (TUR)

For me, sport is a way of living and has always been in my life. I have played soccer as an amateur and wrestled for several years on the high school team. During my undergraduate, I have taken part in some international organizations like Fifa U-20 World Cup and Vodafone Istanbul Marathon as a volunteer. I have stayed in the United States for 4 months through work and travel programmes and met students from all over the world. I think sport is not only for physical attendance but also as a way of social and cultural improvement. I believe that sport improves friendship and serves as a tool to share cultural experiences. It also provides a positive environment for learning, international interactions, and socializing. Therefore, I am thrilled to be in the student commission of EUSA and work with the great team for university sports.
