W4C meeting in Spain promoting volunteering

Partners of the Work for a cause, serve for sport (W4C-S4S) project on volunteering in sport held a hybrid transnational project meeting in Almussafes, Spain, on March 3-4.

The meeting agenda was fully packed for both working days. The two-day meeting started with a welcome speeches by the city delegation, lead by the Mayor of Almusaffes Mr Toni González, followed by presentations of each partner organizations.

During the first day of the meeting, participants discussed the results of a survey launched in November last year and reviewed good practice examples, gathered by the partner organisations, as well as shared ideas and exchanged views on creating an online course that will help prepare future volunteers for various sporting events.

The second day was mainly devoted to project management and discussion of the future steps of the project. President of Almussafes Tennis Club Mr Miguel Ribes presented a good practice initiative in para tennis competitions. Participants also had an opportunity to visit sport facilities provided for the people of the municipality and also to learn about the city itself.

The focus of the W4C project is on volunteers, with the project aiming to assist with the education and preparation of volunteers across Europe, while also equipping them to assist people with disabilities at sporting events, thus fostering social inclusion, equal opportunities in sport.

The project is lead by the City of Zagreb (CRO), partnering with the Municipality of Almussafes (ESP), Society for the Development of Voluntary Work Novo Mesto (SLO), Institute for Social Innovation and Cohesion (GRE), GEA - Social Cooperative Society (ITA) and the EUSA Institute (SLO). The two-year project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
