W4C event in Zagreb promoting volunteering

The City of Zagreb as the coordinator of the project Work for a cause, serve for sport (W4C) organised on June 4 and 5 in Zagreb, a project activity, promoting volunteering.

The multiplier sport event was held at the Cultural Information Center in the city center of Zagreb. The conference was opened by sports journalist Mr Filip Brkic and the participants were addressed by the main project manager Ms Andrea Pintar, EUSA Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl, and Deputy Head of Sports and Youth at the City Office for Education, Sports and Youth Mr Milan Pavelic.

After the opening, the volunteers and organizers were able to hear more details in various areas related to volunteering in sports over the two days of the programme. About 60 volunteers and representatives of the organizers attended workshops divided into three modules entitled: Sports events - logistical support, Sports assistants for people with disabilities and Volunteer Management.
Volunteer registration

The first set of workshops addressed the educational modules, with guest expert speakers Mr Tomislav Paripović, Ms Ana Veočić, Ms Ivana Aničić and Ms Maida Arslanagić. As part of the event, a round table was held on the topic of supporting organizers of sports events to improve the management of volunteers and the implementation of volunteer programs. The main aim of the round table was to initiate a dialogue between key stakeholders on the importance of volunteering for sport and the application of good practices.

Participants of the round table were Mr Zrinko Čustonja, Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb; Ms Ana Sekula, Volunteer Manager WRC Croatia Rally 2022; Mr Dragan Katunar, Secretary of the Croatian Ski Association for People with Disabilities; Mr Bojan Kovač, President of Sirius Tennis Club; Ms Mateja Petrić, City Office for Social care protection, health, veterans and people with disabilities; Ms Lidija Petrinović, representative of the Croatian Badminton Federation; Mr Srećko Opašić, Secretary of the Zagreb Athletics Federation and Mr Irena Smojver, member of the Coordinating Body for Improving Volunteering in Sports at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Work for a cause, serve for sport project is co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, bringing together the City of Zagreb (CRO), Municipality of Almussafes (ESP), Society for the Development of Voluntary Work Novo Mesto (SLO), Institute for Social Innovation and Cohesion (GRE), GEA - Social Cooperative Society (ITA) and the EUSA Institute (SLO).
