Virtual meeting held between EUSA and EJU

The Sports Department of the European University Sports Association held a successful online meeting with the European Judo Union (EJU) on Tuesday, February 9, with productive discussions taking place between the two partner organisations.

EJU and EUSA have shared an official partnership since 2019 when a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two organisations.

Tuesday’s meeting allowed both EUSA and the EJU to share their organisations’ updates, while informing each other of prospective events and competitions.

Present in the meeting on behalf of EUSA was Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, Assistant Sports Manager Mr Liam Smith and International Relations Officer Ms Lea Medvesek, with Head Office Director Mr Martin Poiger, Head Office Assistant Ms Alla Hosl and Sport Director Mr Hrvoje Lindi in attendance from EJU. Joining the online meeting as well was EUSA TD for Judo Mr Xavier Dung.

Following introductions from both federations, EUSA’s upcoming programme was discussed, following which an update was given regarding the fifth edition of the European Universities Games taking place in Belgrade, Serbia in July, where both Judo has been included on the sports programme for this summer’s highly-anticipated Games, with the topic of referee nominations by EJU for the Games was also discussed.

Upcoming milestones were then discussed, after which the topic of conversation revolved around the current global COVID-19 pandemic, with possible adaptions and solutions to future events considered.

Judo at EUC 2019

Both organisations will continually support and engage with each other in future events and activities while promoting Judo among students in Europe.

Limited space is still available for the Judo competition at EUG2021, with the second general entry registration deadline set for Monday, February 15.
