Splendid FISU World Forum 2020

The traditional bi-annual FISU World Forum was held this year virtually for the first time. International University Sports Federation (FISU), Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS) and the University of Physical Education in Budapest (UPE) hosted the event between August 12 and 14.

Almost 1.500 participants, including 600 university students from 105 countries took part in the event, nominated by the National and Continental University Sports Federations, including European University Sports Association (EUSA).

Opening of the FISU World Forum 2020 (Mr Oleg Matytsin)

The event started with the opening speeches of the FISU President Mr Oleg Matytson, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Mr Thomas Bach and the Minister of State for Sport Ms Tunde Szabo. The event was also broadcast by one of the Hungarian sport TV channels.

During the three-day Forum, seven roundtable discussions and fifteen workshops were held in total. The main theme of the 2020 World Forum was 70 years of FISU, while sub-themes included Health and University Sports, Inclusion and University Sport, and Challenges for University Sports including Digitalization, University Rankings, University Sports during Covid-19.

Interesting discussions

The event featured a great rooster of speakers and moderators from all over the world, giving also the events participants a chance to interact and contribute. Apart of the lectures and workshops, the virtual space also hosted an online exhibition, as well as provided a platform for e-sports, mind sports and virtual tours by the hosts.

EUSA contributed to the Forum by sharing its experiences in its digital campaigns promoting physical activity, including the #beactiveathome #fitathome activities in April and May, and the #myeusa campaign that is currently running. The activities and strategies were presented by Mr Andrej Pisl, EUSA's Communications and Projects Manager.

Workshops

EUSA also nominated student representatives to the Forum, and we are proud to observe that Ms Zrinka Tabain from Croatia formed part of an international team that received an award for their project, addressing the current challenges of university sport.

At the end, the FISU flag was virtually handed over to the Organising Committee of the next FISU World Forum, which will be held in 2022 in Costa Rica.
