SELL Games 2018 concluded in Tartu

The SELL Games 2018 took place from May 18 to May 20 in Tartu, Estonia, where more than 1000 students from nine countries participated in 12 sports.

Three days full of effort and fun ended with the ending ceremony at the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club. The baton has been ceremoniously passed to Lithuania where in the next spring the SELL Games 2019 will be held.

Athletics

Lithuania and Estonia were the most successful counties at this year's SELL games. Lithuanian Sports University won 38 medals, from which of 10 were gold, and the second best was the University of Tartu with 35 medals. Andrius Gudžius from Lithuania, the World champion of discus throw, made the seasons highest score at the SELL Games with the result of 69.13. The farthest competing country at the SELL games 2018 was China whose delegation enjoyed visiting and competing in Estonia.

Football

SELL Games are international sports competition for students, which roots go back to the year 1923, when first International Regional Student Sports Competitions were organized in Tartu and which later became known as SELL Games. Each year one of the four host countries - Finland (Suomi), Estonia (Eesti), Latvia (Latvija), Lithuania (Lietuva) - take turn in organizing the SELL Student Games. This year’s Games, held in Tartu, celebrated it’s 34th edition - and the 20th anniversary since its revival.

Badminton

SELL Games are for amateur, competitive or professional athletes and who were able to compete in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Floorball, Judo, Mini-football, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Wrestling.

Swimming

2018 SELL Games honour patron was the President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, and sportpatron the European championship double silver medal, judoka Juhan Mettis.

The event was organised by the Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASL) and held under the patronage of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU). EUSA was represented at the event by Mr Kemal Tamer, EUSA Vice-President.
