SAIF elects new President

During the General Assembly held in Stockholm from April 17-19, delegates elected Erik Bjorkman as the new President of the Swedish University Sports Federation.

Eric Bjorkman brings extensive experience from within the Swedish university sports movement. He previously served as a member of the federation’s board from 2010 to 2020 and has also played an active role in the federation’s international committee for approximately 15 years.

Although Mr Bjorkman was unable to attend the General Assembly in person due to prior commitments, he addressed the federation and its member associations through a digital message during the meeting. In his greeting, he expressed gratitude for the confidence and trust placed in him.

He also emphasised his enthusiasm for stepping into the presidency and highlighted his ambition to strengthen collaboration across the federation. Mr Bjorkman stated that he looks forward to meeting all member associations and working together to implement the cooperative vision outlined in the federation’s strategy.

The General Assembly also marked the conclusion of Christopher Svensson’s long-standing leadership within the federation. After a total of 12 years on the board, including the last four years as Chair of the Board, he is now passing the baton on. During his tenure, the federation continued to develop, and university sports in Sweden were further strengthened. His commitment, expertise, and ability to unite people across the organisation have left a lasting impact.

In his farewell remarks, Mr Svensson highlighted “the enormous commitment that exists within university sports” as well as the “wonderful and educational discussions with students” that characterised his years within the movement. These qualities, highly valued by the federation and its member associations, have been central to the culture he helped foster throughout his leadership.
