Run Mascot, Run!

Run Mascot, Run!

United Kingdom is home of world famous varsities. Every university sport lover knows about Cambridge and Oxford boat race that happens every year on the river Thames. But, this topic has nothing to do with that. Todays topic is related to the funniest charity you will read – race of mascots.

As the name says, the event i really simple. Athletes or volunteers from different universities dress in their mascots and try to be first at the finish line. What is special about that?

First, you can imagine how hard it is to be fully dressed in a mascot, trying to hold your head (mascot head) and to be fast at the same time. Take it from the only girl who ran at this years race Katrina Bass.

-       It’s very hot in those costumes and you can’t really see, a couple of heads rolled off during the race.

Second, every year they raise money and awareness about different charity events. This year charity was The Alice Ruggles Trust and they collected £700 just from the entries.

-      It’s become a tradition and grown bigger every year. We had a waiting list this year and although we held 2 races we still couldn’t fit everyone in. BUCS official mascot Brian the lion does tend to give some chat to the other mascots on his own twitter channel @BUCSLion.

Perhaps we will organize EUSA mascot race, why not? At the end we will just let you enjoy the atmosphere from some previous mascot races.
