Reminiscing about the European Universities Games

We are currently amidst the 2023 season of European Universities Championships, but mid July for the European University Sports Association (EUSA) for over 10 years is traditionally also a period when we celebrate our flagship event – the European Universities Games in the even years.

The European University Sports Association is proudly celebrating this period, going through the timeline of the European Universities Games, representing one of the Europe's biggest sport events.

Starting with 13th of July 2012 when the first edition of the Games was opened in Cordoba, continuing with 24th of July 2014 and the start of the Games in Rotterdam, to the biggest edition of the European Universities Games so far - Zagreb-Rijeka officially starting on 13th of July 2016.

On 15th of July 2018, we have been celebrating the opening of the European Universities Games in Coimbra and two days later in 2022, on 17th of July we were enjoying the Opening Ceremony of the Games in Lodz, Poland.

In 2020 and 2021, the European Universities Games planned to take place from July 14th in Belgrade, were unfortunately cancelled due to Covid 19 pandemic. However, we still celebrate the eagerness and determination to organize and celebrate university sport, even when the odds are not in our favour.

European Universities Games 2024 awaits for you next year!

On this day, next year, we will be already celebrating the start of the 7th edition of the European Universities 2024 in Debrecen-Miskolc, being part of another great event, leaving another mark in the history of European University Sport and creating new legacy and new memories.

Welcome to the European Universities Games 2024!

We will also continue the tradition of celebratory July with the subsequent edition of the European Universities Games, to be held in Salerno in 2026. As the Bidding for the Games in 2028 is still open, we invite you to join us in the future of celebratory July, apply and take the opportunity to organize the future edition of the European Universities Games!

The European Universities Games are governed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA), intended for student athletes aged 17-30 who are pursuing their education at accredited European higher education institutions. The event is also supported by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and has in the past received co-financing by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.
