PRODUCE kick-off: preparing grounds for young journalists

The future of journalists reporting on university sports looks to be in good hands following the PRODUCE (PROmoting DUal Career through Education of young journalists) project kick-off meeting held in Ljubljana over the weekend.

Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, the PRODUCE project’s aim is to create both an educational peer to peer network among young journalists in Europe while simultaneously providing guidelines for active learning, giving non-formal knowledge to budding reporters through practical experience at the European Universities Championships in 2019 and the European Universities Games 2020.

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

PRODUCE will look to guide the young reporters while also educating trainers to share the learnt expertise with their students, with the target age being 18-25. A workshop will also be created and resented at the European Universities Games in Belgrade 2020. The goal of the project is to support skills development by promoting dual career using examples of successful athletes who manage to combine the athletic and academic career at university sport events.

Presentations of the partners

Participants first gave a short presentation of their organisations, before the coordinator broke down the two-year project’s financial aspects and obligations, before outlining a more detailed plan for the coming 24 months.

Discussions with workshop at the meeting

Following a short #beactive city tour of Ljubljana and lunch, participants then discussed their goals and contributions to the project in the afternoon, with tasks being assigned and a short-term action plan implemented before the meeting’s conclusion. Participants were also able to join an enjoyable tour to the picturesque town of Bled the following morning before returning home.
