One week until the Opening Ceremony of EUG 2026
With just one week remaining, anticipation is building as the European Universities Games (EUG) 2026 prepare to officially begin in Salerno, Italy.
From July 18 to August 1, Europe's largest university multi-sport event will bring together around 4,000 student-athletes and officials for two weeks of elite competition, friendship and cultural exchange.
The eighth edition of the European Universities Games, organised under the auspices of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in cooperation with the University of Salerno, CUS Salerno and ADISURC, will feature competitions in 13 sports, while also promoting the core values of university sport: excellence, inclusion, fair play, education and international cooperation.

The celebrations will officially begin with the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, July 18, at 20:30, in the spectacular Piazza della Liberta in Salerno.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Tyrrhenian Sea, one of Italy's most impressive waterfront squares will welcome thousands of competitors, officials, volunteers and supporters for an unforgettable evening celebrating the beginning of Europe's biggest university sporting event.
Those unable to attend in person will also be able to follow the Opening Ceremony through a live stream, joining the celebration from across Europe and beyond.

Beyond the competitions, the Games will offer a rich programme of educational, cultural and social activities, reinforcing the unique spirit of university sport.
EUSA staff are actively supporting the final preparations in Salerno ahead of the European Universities Games 2026. Working closely with the Local Organising Committee, they are addressing the final operational details, meeting daily challenges and ensuring that every aspect of the event is ready to welcome participants from across Europe.
Across the city, the excitement is becoming increasingly visible. Promotional banners, event branding and colourful displays have transformed Salerno, creating a vibrant atmosphere and reminding residents and visitors alike that Europe's largest university sporting event is just around the corner.
