Briefly describe how and why did you get involved in Beach Volleyball?

In sports in general I got involved because of my older brother, who started playing soccer with his elementary school friends. But later on I started playing volleyball because I tried Beach Volleyball in summer holidays. Once I started I liked the family like atmosphere in the Volleyball Club and found a lot of good friends, that’s why I continued.

"Being in Split with all the crazy Beach Volleyball players was awesome"

What do you study? How do you balance your study, trainings and competitions?

I am studying Economics for Natural Scientists (MA) and during summer (main study season) my studies suffer a lot. I don’t have enough time to go to all the recommended lectures, so in the summer I only do a few courses. My semesters in winter are therefore busier then.

Tell us about your experience of the European Universities Championships 2017. Is this your first time at an EUSA event?

It was my second time already after the Volleyball European Championships in Camerino, 2015. Both events were absolute highlights of my year. I enjoyed Camerion a lot and the vibe with an indoor team is different but amazing. Being in Split with all the crazy Beach Volleyball players was awesome, too. Good friends were made and I am still in touch with a lot of them thanks to Instagram.

"...everyone who is capable of doing both studying and high level sports should get the recognition, that is at least shown once a year at EUSA events."

In 2018 the European Universities Games 2018 will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, do you hope to be there? Why do you think university sport events are important?

I would definitely love to take part again. I have never been in Portugal before, so this would be great for me anyways. But most motivational is, that I could see all the good souls again I learned to know the past year in Split. It would be like a big international reunion of a class of crazy good people.

EUSA Split 2017 Tim Noack Podium

I think in general, that sports should be higher ranked in European Universities. Compared to all the scholarships in the US, there is a huge lack of appreciation if people chase their dreams and goals in professional sports next to studying. In many sports you cant earn enough money to do it full time but your best years as an athlete are during your studies, so everyone who is capable of doing both studying and high level sports should get the recognition, that is at least shown once a year in the EUSA events.

" ...awesome competition and an amazing time to make new friends from all over Europe."

This is your chance! What is your message to European students like yourself?

Everyone who has the chance to be part of an event like the European Universities Championships (meaning has the level to qualify) and wont take the opportunity is pretty unlucky or stupid to miss this awesome competition and amazing time to make new friends from all over Europe.

Everyone who would love to participate but hasn’t the level (yet) to qualify should work super hard to earn the incentive being part of an EUSA event… its worth it!

EUSA would like to congratulate Tim (and his teammate Yannin) on their medal winning performance in Split, we hope you can make it to Coimbra for the Games!
