Madeira hosts important FADU events

The weekend between the 3-5 of March, in Madeira, few important FADU events took place, marking the 33 years anniversary of the Portugal University Sports Association.

On Friday, 3rd of March, in Funchal (Madeira), the anniversary celebration of FADU Portugal University Sports Federation took place, marking 33 years of existence this year.

The occasion had about 150 participants, among them the president of FADU, Mr Ricardo Nora, and the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Mr João Paulo Correia.

Additional important guests, were also present at the anniversary gathering, such as the Mayor of Funchal, Mr Pedro Calado, the Rector of the University of Madeira, Mr Sílvio Fernandes, the President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA ), Mr Adam Roczek, the Regional Director of Youth of the Regional Government, Mr João Rodrigues, and dozens of representatives of academic/student associations and various higher education institutions from various regions of the country.

During the celebration, FADU's founding and equivalent members were honored, including the Academic Association of Coimbra, the Academic Association of Lisbon, the Academic Association of the University of the Azores, the Academic Association of the University of Algarve, the Academic Association of the University of Aveiro, the Academic Association of the University of Beira Interior, the Academic Association of the University of Minho, Academic Associationa of the University of Madeira and many other. 

On Saturday, another edition of the Academy of Leaders (Academia de Líderes) took place, starting the program with the address of the President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), Mr Adam Roczek, who spoke about the organization he leads and the work that EUSA does in the development of university sport on a European level.

Following on the program was the ‘Sports for people with disabilities" panel and the round table on 'The 33 years of FADU', which included Mr André Reis and Ms Filipa Godinho, former presidents of FADU, Mr Duarte Lopes and Mr Manuel Veloso, former Secretary Generals of FADU, and Mr Fernando Parente, former Vice-President of FADU. In the round table they went through the various phases of FADU, shared some stories and some paths for the future were also pointed out. Words were shared also on the topic of E-Sports. 

On Sunday, the program participants visited the facilities of Sport Club Marítimo, with guided tours and explanations about the way the club works and its different areas of action.

On Saturday, the General Assembly of FADU took place in the building of the Penteada University complex, with the presence of about fifty delegates. 

During the session, the minutes of the previous General Assembly were voted and the first steps taken with a view to the Portuguese participation in the World University Games in Chengdu 2021 were mentioned.
