La Nucia preparatory visit for EUC Combat Sports 2027

EUSA Executive Committee Member Aitor Canibe Sanchez and EUSA Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik visited La Nucia, Spain, on November 14-16, 2025, on the occasion of the 1st Spanish Club Combat Championship. Known as the “City of Sports,” La Nucia is set to host the EUSA European Universities Combat Sports Championships in 2027.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for the EUSA representatives to observe the organisation of a major multi-sport event and engage with local partners and stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming EUC.

During their stay, the EUSA delegation was warmly welcomed by the Mayor of La Nucía Bernabe Cano and Councillor for Sports Sergio Villalba, who presented the ambitious City of Sports project and its state-of-the-art facilities.

The visit continued with tours of the competition venues and meetings with several Spanish Sports Federations representatives: Jesus Eguia, President of the Spanish Kickboxing and Muay Thai Federation; Jesus Castellanos, President of the Spanish Taekwondo Federation; Francisco Javier Iglesias, President of the Spanish Wrestling Federation;, and Felipe Martínez, President of the Spanish Boxing Federation.

EUSA representatives met as well with Fabian Quesada, Director General of the Association of Spanish Sports Federations (ADESP).

With its outstanding infrastructure and strong tradition of promoting sport at all levels, La Nucia promises to deliver a memorable European Universities Combat Championship. EUSA looks forward to welcoming more than 1,500 participants from across Europe to this dynamic sports city in 2027.
