Join in the GETZ project toolkit

The European University Sports Association invites interested participants to join in and take part in the GETZ toolkit, which forms part of the transnational gender equality project GETZ, of which the EUSA Institute is a partner.

Before starting, many of you may be wondering: What does GETZ mean?

GETZ stands for Gender Equality Toolkit for generation Z (people born between 1995-2000). The objective of this project is to tackle the gender imbalance in the field of sport. Management positions and leadership roles in this industry are still heavily male dominated which is why educating the next generation and raising awareness to deeply change the sport’s structure is essential.

This leads us to the next question: How does the GETZ toolkit work?

The toolkit takes the form of a MOOC: Massive Open Online Course. Participants can access it here https://getzproject.eu/massive-open-online-course-toolkit/.

The MOOC is interactive, user-friendly and easy to use. The first step is to take the GETZ online survey, which will enable participants to gain insights into the perception of gender equality and equal opportunities. Indeed, the current situation must be assessed to adapt the actions and the focus of the project.

GETZ MOOC

Users can then access the rest of the courses, which are divided into six units, each composed of six parts (outline, introduction, tasks, discussion, resources and summary). Participants may use them at their own pace and in their own order. The six units focus on the different aspects of gender equality issues within sport. In such manner users can gain a multi-angle approach, which underlines the complexity of equality between women and men.

The angles approached are:

Culture and society, focusing on challenging the gendered stereotypes. The aim is to identify and understand gender-related issues, how it affects people’s lives and what can, or is done, to challenge them.

Governance and law, which highlights sports organisations and international federations and their role in gender equality issues, especially regarding leadership roles, structures and decision-making roles.

Commerce, which underlines the commercial perspective, and the multiple opportunities to develop and create new visions in female sports.

Media, which concentrateson the media’s influence on the representation of women’s sport and the impact on society and the challenges that women often face.

Participation, which explores issues regarding women’s participation in sport: how participation is influenced by gender stereotypes and how it can be challenged to increase the number of women practising.

Events, which examines the impact and legacy of sport events. Around these main events, from a commercial, participant or spectator perspective, an evaluation of gender issues like equal pay, sponsorship deals and sometimes even legal restrictions are made.

Thanks to the diversity of the units and the quality of the content developed by experts, after completing the MOOC, you will be able to better understand not only the challenges and the needs of equality within sport, but also within society as a whole, as sport very much reflects societal trends.

This toolkit was created in a way which allows constant optimisation, through regular feedback and the final evaluation, asking people to reflect on the MOOC and their communication habits, so as to have a greater chance of reaching generation Z.

GETZ Project

That is why EUSA strongly recommends as many participants as possible to enrol in this MOOC and become an ambassador of gender equality within sport and society, to help shape a fair future in line with our values. The MOOC is open for everyone and free to use. Those who enrol in the GETZ MOOC by this summer will also benefit from the possibility of additional support from the expert team!
