GSHE launches new Sustainability Self-Assessment Tool

GSHE launches new Sustainability Self-Assessment Tool

In the follow-up of Earth Day 2023, the Green Sports Hub Europe partnership has launched a new self-assessment tool for sports organisations to understand and improve their environmental impact with over 50 organisations taking part so far.

Sport, in various forms, has been a constantly evolving phenomenon which has produced huge leaps of innovation both in commercial practices and athletic performance and with it comes an increased impact on our environment. At many levels, sport organisations have been active on environmental sustainability, but to truly achieve a sustainable sports industry there needs to be a sustained attempt at implementing new practices at all levels of sport.

The new Self-Assessment Tool helps organisations to know where they should focus their efforts, with 6 modules covering: event management; natural environment; governance; resource management; facilities; and host/venue selection – you will have specific ideas of how to mitigate and limit your climate impact.

Green Sports Europe is a three year Erasmus+ Sport Collaborative Partnership and aims to be the reference on sport sustainability at the continental level as it is designed to establish a joint path with European key stakeholders. Its role is connecting, informing, building the capacity of, and engaging the wider sports community to become greener and share common social and environmental values.

GSHE project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, is led by Surfrider Foundation Europe (FRA), with project partners including Association of Cities and Regions for the Sustainable Management of Resources - ACR (BEL), Sports Confederation of Portugal (POR), UKActive (GBR), Green Cycling Norway (NOR), Olympic Committee of Slovenia (SLO), European Volleyball Confederation (LUX), Rugby Europe (FRA), European Athletics Association (SUI) and the EUSA Institute (SLO).
