Future of 3x3 Basketball

Every year 3x3 basketball has more and more interest in the world of sport and you could say that it is the fastest growin sport at the moment. Last year this sport was officially added to the Olympic Games 2020 programme and this year we will have fourth EUSA competition. Last year we had the chance to see U23 Nations League champions from Slovenia in EUC in Split, and we are happy to announce that they won bronze in Mediterranian Games in Tarragona.

Slovenia is one of the strongest countries in 3x3 Basketball alongside Serbia and Latvia and so far they are amazing at EUSA competitions in both men and women competitions. In Split team from Slovenia came as the top seed by FIBA 3x3 rankings. They were under 23 European and World champions and they had the right to call themselves favorites of the competitions, said Stojan Djekanovic before for EUSA Insider.

- It was our first EUSA competition and based on FIBA 3x3 rankings we thought we would be one of the favorites. We really wanted to get a medal, but we made a big mistake underestimating UNI Saint-Petersburg in quarter-finals and lost, I think 21-15. But hey, that’s life, you are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.

They learned from their mistakes and won the medal for Slovenia in Tarragona, at Mediterranian Games. We were honored to have them at EUSA Competition and although we hope to see them again, their obligations are stronger.

- We are trying to become 3x3 professional, so that means we have competition over the whole summer. We hope we will be there, but it’s not likely. These events are more than welcome, because you can meet a lot of new people, travel across the Europe and the end take a break from studying.
