FISU strengthens relationships ahead of Chungcheong 2027
The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has reaffirmed its strong cooperation with the Republic of Korea during a high-level visit held from 16 to 21 April 2026, as preparations continue for the Chungcheong 2027 FISU World University Games.
Led by President Leonz Eder, accompanied by Secretary General and CEO Matthias Remund and Head of Higher Education Relationships Delise O’Meally, the FISU delegation met with key governmental stakeholders, including representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwi-young Choi, who reiterated their full commitment to the successful delivery of the Games. President Eder expressed his appreciation for the support received, highlighting confidence in Korea’s determination to deliver a high-quality event.

The visit also included venue inspections and operational meetings, confirming that preparations are progressing according to plan. In addition, President Eder was awarded an honorary doctorate by Myongji University, recognising his longstanding contribution to university sport and education.

With strong institutional backing and continued close cooperation, the foundations are firmly set for a successful and impactful edition of the FISU World University Games in 2027.
