FISU Executive Committee meeting held in Mongolia
The Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) met on 26-27 June in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, bringing together representatives of the global university sports movement to take important decisions shaping the future of the organisation and university sport worldwide.
Representing the European University Sports Association (EUSA) on the FISU Executive Committee, EUSA President Haris Pavletic attended the meeting together with EUSA Secretary General/CEO Matjaz Pecovnik.
On the first day of the meeting, the Executive Committee approved key decisions in preparation for its submission to the FISU Extraordinary General Assembly in January, ahead of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade.

The Committee also reviewed progress on the implementation of the FISU Strategy 2027 and the development of the new FISU Strategy 2031.
Members received updates from the continental university sports federations and discussed preparations for upcoming FISU events, including the FISU World University Games, future editions of the FISU Forum, and other major events on the international university sports calendar.

For the first time in history, the EC adopted the Step-Up Programme’s eligibility and financial support plans for the upcoming Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade, providing opportunities for NUSFs to send student-athletes to FISU events, exchange experiences, and build capacity.

With the 2026 edition approaching in Ostersund, Sweden, plans for a renewed FISU World Forum were presented to participants. The Forum is set to evolve with a stronger strategic focus, enhancing its relevance and impact. In this spirit, the Executive Committee approved the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) to host the 2028 edition, aiming to deliver a more dynamic and impactful event for the benefit of the world university sport movement.

Discussions also addressed initiatives aimed at strengthening governance, sustainability and the long-term development of the global university sports movement.
Alongside the official programme, the EUSA representatives held a series of productive meetings with FISU President Leonz Eder, FISU Secretary General/CEO Matthias Remund, and representatives of the Continental University Sports Federations to further strengthen international cooperation.

The discussions confirmed that the Memorandum of Understanding between EUSA and FISU will be signed during the European Universities Games 2026 in Salerno this July, further reinforcing the partnership between the two organisations.
In parallel, preparations continued for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between EUSA and FISU America, planned before the end of the year, creating new opportunities for intercontinental collaboration.

EUSA representatives also met with the President of the Mongolian Students’ Sports Federation (MSSF), Bayasgalan Danzandorj, thanking him and the organising team for the excellent organisation of the Executive Committee meeting and their outstanding hospitality.

The meetings in Ulaanbaatar reaffirmed the shared commitment of FISU, EUSA and the continental federations to strengthening international cooperation, promoting good governance, and advancing university sport through closer collaboration across continents.
