FISU America Games Lima 2026

The IV FISU America Games Lima 2026 came to a close after thirteen days of competition, connection, and celebration of university sport.

More than 2,000 student-athletes from 18 countries gathered in the Peruvian capital to take part in a new edition of the continent's most important multi-sport university event.

Organised by FISU AMERICA in partnership with the University Sports Federation of Peru (FEDUP), the event once again reaffirmed FISU AMERICA’s commitment to the development of university sport across the Americas. From July 20 to August 1, Lima is becoming the meeting point for more than 2,000 student-athletes from 18 countries, competing in the continent’s premier university multi-sport event.

As a continental organisation promoting university sport and a member of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), FISU AMERICA is hosting these Games with the aim of strengthening international competition, supporting integration among higher education institutions, and promoting the values of excellence, respect, friendship, and fair play that characterise the university sports movement.

The fourth edition of the Games represents one of the most important events on FISU AMERICA’s continental calendar and reaffirms the sustained growth of university sport across the region. For this edition, FISU AMERICA is working together with FEDUP, the organisation responsible for the local delivery of the event, to provide a high-level sporting and organisational experience.

The Opening Ceremony, held on July 20 at the Luisa Estela Fuentes Quijandría Sports Centre in Villa El Salvador, officially launched the sporting celebration with the traditional Parade of Delegations, the participation of university sports authorities, and cultural performances showcasing the identity of Peru as the host country.

The Games bring together delegations from 18 countries across the continent: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, the United States Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay. The presence of these delegations reflects the diversity and continued growth of university sport across the Americas.

Over thirteen days of competition, student-athletes are taking part in 15 sports, encompassing both individual and team disciplines: chess, athletics, basketball, football, futsal, handball, judo, karate, weightlifting, swimming, rugby sevens, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, and beach volleyball.

From the opening days, Lima's sports venues witnessed outstanding performances, record-breaking achievements, thrilling finals, and unforgettable moments that will remain part of the Games' history. Every medal reflected months and years of preparation, determination, and hard work, while each competition offered student-athletes the opportunity to showcase their talent and continue developing both on and off the field of play.

Following the conclusion of all competitions, the final medal table of the IV FISU America Games Lima 2026 was confirmed, with the USA on top with 205 medals across the games, followed by Peru with 151 and Chile with 81 medals.

The Closing Ceremony officially marked the end of the Games and provided an opportunity to recognise everyone who contributed to the success of this edition. FISU America expressed its sincere gratitude to the Peruvian University Sports Federation (FEDUP), the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), the Local Organising Committee, the national sports federations, public authorities, judges, referees, coaches, volunteers, and all members of the workforce whose dedication ensured the successful delivery of the event.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the traditional handover of the FISU America Games flag, through which Lima officially passed the responsibility for hosting the next edition to Brazil. The Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) received the flag and formally assumed the commitment to organise the FISU America Games 2028, which will be held in Brasília.

Looking ahead, FISU America remains committed to strengthening the university sports movement across the Americas and creating new opportunities for young people to grow through sport and education.

The FISU America Games Lima 2026 have come to an end, but the stories, lessons, and friendships built throughout these days will continue long after the final competition.
