FISU 3x3 Basketball University World Cup has concluded

FISU with the support of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TUSF), organised the FISU World Cup 3x3 Basketball, that took place from 27-29 of October in Istanbul, Turkyie. 

FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball, hosted university student-players from all around the world, that competed to be crowned the FISU World Cup 3x3 Basketball champions. The final match was held at Galataport on October 29, at the occasion of Türkiye’s Republic Day.

Twenty four university teams from 18 countries from all continents competed in FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball competition. University students experienced cultural interaction as well as sports competition. 

At the opening ceremony Mr Marko Zunic, FISU Executive Committee member and ITU Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu both wished all the athletes best of luck and lots of fun at the competition. 

At the finals in the men's competition, the team of Paulista University (BRA), celebrated the title of the University World Cup 3x3 Basketball, in the match played against Macquarie University (AUS). The bronze was won by Montterrey ITES (MEX).


The women competition crowned the Chinese Culture University (TPE) after they won the match against Monterrey ITES (MEX). The bronze went in the hands of Royal International University (MGL).

The two teams that qualified through winning the first and second place at the European Universities Games in Lodz, 2022, in 3x3 basketball, Vytautas Magnus University (LTU) in men’s competition and Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (UKR) and Universitiy of Ljubljana (SLO) in women’s competition, reached the quarter finals of FISU 3x3 World University Cup. 

This FISU World University Cup 3x3 Basketball was one of the last sports events for the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in 2022. In 2022 FISU University World Cups, where student-athletes compete for their university rather than their country, welcomed just over 1400 athletes and officials from 62 countries and 385 universities. These championships included Finswimming organised in Lignano Sabbiadoro in April, followed by Handball in Pristina, Kosovo in July, and then two in Türkiye – Combat Sports in Samsun in late September, and 3x3 Basketball in Istanbul in late October. 


This year, also the FISU World University Championships were held, having approximately 2000 student-athletes from 694 universities and 61 countries participating. The championship season consisded of FISU Championship in Ski Orienteering in Jachymov (CZE), Cross Country in Aveiro (POR), Sport Climbing in Innsbruck (AUT), Futsal in Braga-Guimaraes (POR), Golf in Torino (ITA), Orienteering in Magglingen-Biel (SUI), Beach Volleyball in Maceio (BRA), Mind Sports in Antwerp (BEL), and coming up Squash in New Giza (EGY).
