Finally that day has arrived. Teams are on the court, athmosphere in the University stadium complex is something that we waited since the conclusion of European Universities Games in Zagreb and Rijeka. First day of the competition we had the chance to see badminton, table tennis, handball and volleyball teams from all over Europe.

People smiling, fighting hard for their teams and supporting other teams is the picture we remember from the last EUG and we saw exactly that on all the venues we visited. It is unfortunate that not all teams can win, but this is the nature of sport.

We are happy to see that the University sports complex is totally refurbished and athletes had the chance to compete in the completely new venues with top level equipment for each sport. 

Also, it is amazing to see that inside the University Sports Stadium athletes and volunteers have a lots of ways to have fun and engage some sports in a completely different way, like boxing and football.

First day of the competition, was also reserved for the General Technical Meeting of the Tennis tournament where we have total of 36 teams (20 men and 16 women) competing for the title of European university tennis champions. Representatives of all Universities were introduced with the rules and regulations, as well as all the necessary information, and the official draws were made.

At the beginning of every GTM all representatives heard the opening speech by Mr Mario Santos, General Secretary of the Organizing Committee, after which EUSA Sports Director Mr Besim Aliti and OC Sports Director Ms Filipa Godinho introduced all representatives with all necessary information about the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the European Universities Games 2018 (EUG18).

Team lead by Chair of the Competition Commission for Tennis Mr Bill Thompson, with EUSA Technical Delegate Daniel Studer, Assistant Technical Delegate Ms Anastasia Tsouroufli and National Technical Delegate Mr Jorge Cardoso presented rules and regulations of the tournament and the draw was made.

Present at the GTMs wes also Supervision Commission members Mr Dmitry Kiselev and other representatives.
