Final match day at EUG concluded, we have new champions!

Very exciting two weeks are behind us, as we saw 13 different sports being played in the City of Coimbra. At the end, last three sports concluded today as we found out the names of new champions in football, futsal and basketball.

The day has started with the final matches of men and women football competition. In men competition we had a clash of debutants, two teams that are participating in the EUSA competitions for the first time. The was won by the team of University of Split (CRO) who defeated Smolensk State Academy of Physical Education Sport and Tourism (RUS). The two teams already met in the group stages and there we saw a draw which announced difficult match in front of us. Finally, Ante Barac´s goal was enough to separate the two sides. Bronze was won by Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University after penalties.

In the  women final, teams from University of Montpellier (RUS) and Siberian Federal University (RUS) had to be separated by penalties as the result after the regular period was 1:1. University based in Russia had more luck during the penalty shutout and took home the gold medal. The achievement is even bigger when you realize that Montpellier won previous two EUSA Football competitions.

Unfortunately, excitement brought by futsal players had to finish as the final matches are over with the double victory of Universities from Spain. University of Alicante and University of Malaga took home the gold medals after two very exciting finals.

University of Alicante won the women tournament after an exciting match against Moscow Polytechnical University in a match were we saw 13 goals on both sides. Only one separated the two teams at the and as Alicante won 7:6. Bronze went to Poland, to the University of Jagiellonia.

After the final match in men futsal we can surely say that University of Minho and University of Malaga deserved their place in the grand final. Teams were so close and both skill and luck was involved in making the result 2:2 at the end of the regular time. Finally, match went to penalties and the lady luck was on the side of University of Malaga which took the gold. Bronze went to the home team of University of Coimbra.

History was written in the basketball venue as Austria became the new country where the gold medal in women Basketball went, as the University of Vienna won against University of Toulouse II - Jean Jaures (FRA). In a match where we did not see a lot of points, team from Vienna handled the pressure better winning the long anticipated gold. So far, they participated twice at EUSA competitions, winning sixth and seventh place. Last year champion, University of Strasbourg had to satisfy with the bronze medal.

On the other hand, University of Bologna won the gold medal yet again proving to be the best University in Europe when it comes to Basketball. In the final match they outclassed the team of Beykent University after the great last quarter where they smashe their opponents and won 92:75. Third place went to Talinn University of Technology.
