Final GSHE project partners meeting

Final GSHE project partners meeting

The last Green Sports Hub Europe (GSHE) Project partners meeting took place from the 12th until the 14th of October in Lisbon, Portugal organized by the Portuguese Sports Confederation.

The Green Sports Hub Europe (GSHE) Project, is an Erasmus+ Project co-funded by the European Union, the final 2 days event marked the culmination of a three-year journey to promote sustainability in sports. A groundbreaking multiplier sports event accompanied the closing meeting – the European Sports Platform - Equality in Sport Conference organized by the European Non-Governmental Sports Organization (ENGSO).

The Green Sports Hub Europe Project, or GSHE, was established in 2021 with the overarching goal of fostering sustainable practices for grassroots sports events and environmental responsibility within the European sports community. With the support of the Erasmus+ program and the European Union, this initiative aimed to make sports more eco-friendly and create a lasting legacy of green sports across the continent.

Over the course of three years, the GSHE project partners worked to develop and implement a wide range of sustainable practices within the sports industry such as the Self-Assesmnet Tool, and Playbook Library. From reducing carbon footprints to conserving resources, the project's efforts aimed to positively impact the environment while setting an example for the global sports community.

The last GSHE Project Partners’ meeting in Lisbon was an opportunity for project partners from various countries to come together, share insights, and reflect on the accomplishments achieved over the three-year project. During the meeting, participants discussed the challenges and successes encountered, while emphasizing the need to continue promoting sustainability within the sports sector. The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration.

The meeting in Lisbon was marked by fruitful discussions and the sharing of best practices among project partners.

The Green Sports Hub Europe Project partners meeting and the European Sports Platform marked a significant milestone in Europe's journey toward green sports. On the second day of the Green Sports Hub Europe (GSHE) Project's concluding meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, a dynamic and engaging workshop was organized to stimulate innovative ideas and solutions for making sports events more environmentally friendly and sustainable in the future.

The workshop featured three distinct case studies, encouraging participants to think critically about how they can contribute to greener sports events. The GSHE project served as a catalyst for positive change, with the potential to inspire more sustainable sports practices worldwide. Although this particular project has concluded, its legacy lives on, as the knowledge, experiences, and networks created during these three years will continue to drive the sports industry toward a greener and more responsible future.

The three-year project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, is coordinated by Surfrider Foundation Europe (FRA), with project partners including Association of Cities and Regions for the Sustainable Management of Resources (BEL), Sports Confederation of Portugal (POR), UKActive (GBR), Green Cycling Norway (NOR), Olympic Committee of Slovenia (SLO), European Volleyball Confederation (LUX), Rugby Europe (FRA), European Athletics Association (SUI) and the EUSA Institute (SLO).
