Exploring possibilities of EUSA Winter Championships

The 61st edition of the Italian National University Championship in Alpine Skiing took place from March 14-16, 2022 in Val Zoldana.

The event was attended also by a delegation from the European University Sports Association (EUSA), exploring the potentials and possibilities of introducing European Universities Winter Championships in the future.

On the invitation of the organisers, EUSA delegation composed by Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan, and Assistant Sport Manager Mr Mariano Carcatella, visited the event. EUSA representatives met with Mr Antonio Dima, CUSI President and Mr Massimo Zanotto, CUS Venezia President and attended several other meetings to explore the possibilities to include Winter Championships in EUSA Sport Program. In the upcoming months, the report will be presented to the EUSA Executive Committee for its further consideration.

The event, included in the official calendar of the International Ski Federation (FIS), was successfully organized by CUSI and CUS Venezia. Over 250 students competing in Giant slalom and Slalom, in both male and female categories.

Alpine skiing competitions

Alongside with championship, the Italian University Ski Sports Games were also organised in Val di Zoldo for students, university staff and executives, who competed in Giant Slalom on Monday and Tuesday. About 80 participants registered for this first edition of the event, which aimed to create a moment of socialization and fun beyond the technical level. Also the EUSA Secretary General and EUSA Sports Manager participated on the competition, with Mr Pecovnik winning the 1st place on the second day of the Competition.
