The Way of Knowledge Half Marathon and University 6 Run

Budapest, Hungary: November 8, 2015

Over 500 participants from 22 universities registered for the Athletics – Half Marathon Hungarian National University Championship. The competition was organised as a part of the grand event The Way of Knowledge, held for the fifteenth time.

On Sunday, 8th November hundreds of runners were ready for either the 6km Academic Distance or the 21,1 km half marathon with a specific route, passing by universities and the main building of Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The Way of Knowledge was also organised under the Patronage of the European University Sports Association (EUSA).



The Opening ceremony was attended by ultra runner Mr Tibor Frank, the Rector of Semmelweis University prof. dr. Agoston Szel, and board member of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF) and Hungarian Athletics Association dr. Laszlo Kiss. They all welcomed the participants, congratulating them on their numbers, enthusiasm and wishing them success in the event and concluding with a famous motto of Emil Zatopek: ’The fish swim, the bird fly, the man run.’



The awards were presented by Ms Jolan Kontsek discus and javelin thrower, shot-putter and coach, Universiade Champion of Budapest (1965), Female Athlete of the Year (1965), Olympic bronze medallist (1968, Mexico City), European Championship 3rd place winner (Belgrade, 1962).  All the participants have been awarded with a unique medal like last year which was very remarkable in the history of the event.
