Beach Handball Championship 2019 European Universities Beach Handball Championship

The very first European Universities Beach Handball Championship took place near Jarun Lake in Zagreb, Croatia, and involved almost 150 participants representing 16 universities from eight countries.

The tournament was organised by the Croatian Academic Sports Federation, with support from the European Handball Federation (EHF).

EUSA was represented at the event by Executive Committee member Mr Wolf Fruhauf, EUSA Beach Handball Technical Delegate Ms Jelena Rakonjac as well as Assistant Technical Delegate Mr Marco Trespidi.

In the women’s competition, home team University of Zagreb claimed third place as Spain’s University of Barcelona emerged victorious after their 2-1 victory over University of Novi Sad from Serbia in the final.

Home team University of Zagreb had plenty of support en route to the final of the men’s category, where they made their home advantage count to topple University of Belgrade 2-0 and claim the gold medal, while University of Barcelona earned the bronze medal.

Beach Handball will form part of the 21 sporting disciplines at the 2020 European Universities Games, taking place in Belgrade, Serbia.

The next European Universities Beach Handball Championship will take place in Malaga, Spain in 2021 as a part of the EUSA Beach Championships alongside Beach Volleyball.
