The Great Dutch Student Championships (GNSK) took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from June 5 to 7, bringing together more than 1,250 student-athletes from across the country.

The annual event also served as the Dutch National University Championships and the qualification event for the European Universities Championships 2027.

Organised annually in a different Dutch student city, the GNSK is the largest national multi-sport event for university students in the Netherlands. This year's programme featured 13 Dutch student championships across a wide range of sports, including badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, cycling, climbing, fencing, football, futsal, handball, padel, squash, tennis, and volleyball.

Representing the European University Sports Association (EUSA), 1st Vice-President Bruno Barracosa attended the event and took part in the Opening Ceremony on Friday, June 5. During his visit, he was welcomed by the organisers, Student Sports the Netherlands, including Luuk Minnaar, President, Mireille Noordhoorn, Secretary General, and Fleur Tolmeijer, Public Relations.

In addition to the individual and team competitions, student cities also competed for the overall cities' ranking, adding another dimension to the championships. Groningen claimed the top position, followed by Utrecht in second place and host city Amsterdam in third.

The championships offered participants more than just sporting competition, with a vibrant social programme contributing to the event's atmosphere. A well-attended participants' party on Saturday evening, together with accommodation options including camping and sports hall lodging, as well as organised breakfast and dinner services, helped create an enjoyable and welcoming experience for all involved.

The GNSK continues to play an important role in the Dutch university sports calendar while serving as the qualification pathway for the European Universities Championships. The next edition of the Great Dutch Student Championships will be held in Eindhoven from May 29 to 31, 2027.
