EUSA Supervision Commission visit in Split

On March 30, the coastal city of Split hosted the Supervision Commission Meeting, during which the local organisers provided updates on their ongoing preparations for the European Universities Games 2028.

The EUSA delegation included President Haris Pavletic, 1st Vice-President Bruno Barracosa, Treasurer Francis Cirianni, Secretary General / CEO Matjaz Pecovnik and Director of Education and Operations / COO Sara Rozman. This visit was an important step in evaluating the host city's and its key stakeholders' readiness for the multi-sport university event.

Representing the local organising committee were Nikola Vincetic, President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation, and Toni Gamulin, 1st Vice-President, accompanied by Jelena Matesic, Sports Director.

During the visit of the Supervision Commission, chaired by EUSA 1st Vice-President Bruno Barracosa, the delegation carried out site visits across the city and held a series of meetings with key local and regional stakeholders, focusing on the organisation of the European Universities Games in Split.

Those present at the meetings included representatives from the city and regional administration, including Mayor Tomislav Suta and Vice-Mayor Ivo Bilic, as well as Deputy County Prefect of Split-Dalmatia County Stipe Cogelja and Head of the Administrative Department for Education in the same county, Tomislav Donlic. Ivan Galic, advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Sport, also attended to provide insight into national-level support.

The academic community was represented by Prof. Dr. Dragan Ljutic, Rector of the University of Split, and Prof. Dr. Nikola Koceic-Bilan, Vice-Rector, who both participated in a series of constructive meetings. The team also engaged with sports and student representatives, including Andjelo Shetka, the Sports Director of Water Polo Club Jadran, and Ivan Zizic, the Director of the Student Centre, in order to strengthen connections with local sports and student networks.

A visit from the Supervision Commission is a standard and essential milestone in preparing for the European Universities Games, ensuring that organisational, infrastructural and operational standards align with EUSA requirements. The outcomes of the visit will inform the ongoing planning and ensure the successful delivery of the European Universities Games 2028.
