The session marked the official launch of the Council’s work and brought together appointed members for the first time in this format.
The meeting began with introductions among participants, followed by a detailed presentation and discussion of the Council’s terms of reference.

The Council is chaired by Tomasz Aftanski (POL). Its members include Thorsten Hutsch (GER), Gyorgy Kovacs (HUN), Jelena Matesic (CRO), and Jordi Mercade Torras (ESP). Together, the Council brings diverse international expertise aimed at strengthening the development and governance of university sport across Europe.
During the meeting, Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik joined to extend welcoming remarks to the newly established Council, highlighting its importance within the EUSA structure and expressing support for its future work.
The particular focus of the Sports Council meeting was on defining the Council’s advisory role and its function in supporting the EUSA Executive Committee in decision-making processes related to sports within EUSA activities and events.
Looking ahead, the Council will continue its activities through a combination of online and in-person meetings scheduled for later in the year, ensuring ongoing coordination and contribution to EUSA’s strategic sports-related decisions.
