EUSA meets with ParaVolley Europe

EUSA staff met with ParaVolley Europe President Mr Branko Mihorko at the EUSA Office in Ljubljana on Friday, December 6, with steps taken towards an agreement that will be signed between the two associations next year.

Present on behalf of EUSA was Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, with Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik also in attendance.

The meeting focused on the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations which will be signed in January 2020.

ParaVolley Europe’s aim to provide a variety of high-quality volleyball programmes and competitions for athletes with a physical impairment, through development, training, education and event management activities, aligns closely with the objectives of EUSA, which is looking to expand its scope to include more sporting competitions for student-athletes with disabilities.

In line with this, EUSA and ParaVolley Europe discussed the possibility of organising a European Universities ParaVolley Championship in the near future.

In the past, EUSA has included sporting competitions for students with disabilities at the previous two editions of the European Universities Games, and will next year include Para Judo and Para Table Tennis on the schedule for the fifth edition of the European Universities Games in Belgrade, Serbia.

EUSA’s relationship with ParaVolley Europe continues the association’s close ties with the sport, with Volleyball forming one of two sports making up the very first edition of the European Universities Championships organised in 2001.

EUSA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Volleyball Confederation in October 2017, an agreement which has fostered a close partnership between the two organisations.
