EUSA meets with EUG2020 OC in Ljubljana

Five members of the European Universities Games 2020 Organising Committee travelled to Ljubljana, Slovenia on Tuesday, October 8 for an operational meeting with EUSA in preparation for next year’s Games.

The purpose of the meeting was for the EUG2020 organisers to provide an update on the progress made in various sectors ahead of next year’s event in Belgrade, which is now less than 300 days away.

The delegation from Serbia included EUG2020 General Director Mr Predrag Juskovic, Deputy General Director Ms Anita Dobre, Project Manager Mr Dragan Atanasov, Head of Sports Ms Ana Todoric and Head of Venues Mr Akim Komnenic.

Present on behalf of EUSA was Executive Committee Member Mr Milan Zvan, Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl, Education and Development Manager Ms Sara Rozman, Assistant Sports Manager Mr Liam Smith and Communications Officer Mr Fabio De Dominicis.

Following a short welcome and introduction, the meeting began with a report on the organising committee’s overall progress, where the general activities, structure, employees and budgetary matters were discussed, as well as project management.

The focus then turned to the organisation of educational activities at next year’s Games, before all matters concerning venue management were discussed.

The meeting attendees then visited the EUSA Office, and after a short walk around Ljubljana and lunch, the meeting continued with a presentation regarding the Games’ Communication and Media strategy, as well as the forthcoming steps regarding volunteer recruitment.

Thereafter a presentation regarding sports management was given by the organisers, with discussions around the dates of each sport, the facilities and proposed number of teams, with a final discussion regarding the Games’ logistics wrapping up the one day’s meeting agenda.

EUSA will continue working alongside the EUG2020 organisers ahead of next year’s Games, where over 5 000 participants are expected to partake in 21 sporting disciplines from July 12-25.
