EUSA joins the #LetsIDUS and #BeActive celebrations

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) is celebrating the International Day of University Sport (#LetsIDUS) and the European Week of Sport (#BeActive) through a variety of activities across different countries and occasions also this year.

EUSA celebrated these initiatives in multiple ways, including celebratory activities during the European Universities Rowing Championship in Poland, having a representative attend the official opening of European Week of Sport in Denmark, with office engagement activities, and encouraging members and partners to celebrate these initiatives in their own way, promoting sport, health, and active lifestyles within their communities.

The staff of the European University Sports Association, along with all participants and volunteers of the 2025 European Universities Rowing Championship, came together in Bydgoszcz, Poland, to celebrate the International Day of University Sports (IDUS) and to get ready for the upcoming European Week of Sport (EWOS).

In Slovenia, part of the EUSA staff team took part in the SloFit Challenge at the Faculty of Sport, University of Ljubljana.

SloFit is a national programme developed in Slovenia that monitors physical fitness and activity levels among children, youth and adults. It provides valuable insights into the population’s health and helps encourage long-term engagement in physical activity. By testing various aspects such as endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination, SloFit highlights the importance of a balanced and active lifestyle.

The SloFit challenge provides individuals with feedback on their strength, flexibility, endurance, and key physical parameters, while also allowing them to see how their results compare to the average performance of people in their age group.

For the EUSA staff, the challenge was both fun and educational. It allowed them to step away from their desks, test their own fitness, and reflect on the role sport plays in everyday life. The activity also underlined the core message of both initiatives being celebrated: sport is not only about competition, but also about health, well-being, and community.

Promoting an active lifestyle is central to EUSA’s mission, and taking part in SloFit was a great reminder of how simple actions, like moving together, testing your limits, and sharing the joy of sport, can inspire healthier habits. As the Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana demonstrated, universities are ideal places to foster these values, empowering both students and staff to embrace sport as part of daily life.

Sport is an integral part of our lives, bringing communities together, improving our health, and contributing billions to the economy. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the European Week of Sport, an EU initiative that has helped millions of Europeans discover the physical, mental, and social benefits of sport and physical activity. The campaign runs every year from 23 to 30 September, with the dynamic and sustainable city of Copenhagen hosting the 2025 opening ceremony, where EUSA’s Director of Projects and Policy, Andrej Pisl, is representing the association. This milestone edition will focus on celebrating a decade of impact, encouraging healthier digital habits by inspiring people to swap screen time for sport, and motivating everyone to #BeActive.

The program included a variety of activities. A welcome speech by host Nynne Bjerre Christensen kicked off the event, followed by remarks from the Danish King,  H.M King Frederik, the Danish Minister for Culture, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport.

Key presentations covered topics such as physical literacy as a tool for social innovation, sedentary behavior, screen use and health, and introduced initiatives like the Active Sister Schools project, which highlights the importance of play and physical activity. A panel discussion further explored mental well-being and the role of sport, featuring experts from Trinity College, Icehearts Europe, and the Danish Olympic Committee.

With this activity, the EUSA office members joined the celebrations of the 10th edition of the International Day of University Sport #LetsIDUS campaign, celebrated this fall across the globe, and especially honored on September 20.

Through this celebration, EUSA once again highlighted its commitment to promoting sport as a powerful tool for learning, health, and unity across Europe.

EUSA will continue the celebrations of the #LetsIDUS and #BeActive campaign at upcoming events in October, such as the EUSA General Assembly and the EUSA – FISU Strategic Dialogue, planned to take place between the 9th and 12th of October in Zagreb, Croatia. The celebrations will continue a week afterwards in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the European Students Run, taking place for the first time, as part of Ljubljana Marathon on October 19, and a conference "Beyond the finish line", as part of Runners4All & Fit4Green projects on October 18 - held in Ljubljana as well.
