EUSA in Lausanne for FISU 2025 CUSF Seminar

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) has reinforced its commitment to global leadership following a highly productive two-day seminar for Continental University Sports Federations (CUSFs) held at the FISU headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

For the first time in six years, operational representatives from all five continental federations met to discuss under the theme of being "Stronger Together" for the international university sports movement.

EUSA delegation played an active role, providing key European insights on challenges and successes. Representing the organisation were EUSA Secretary General/CEO Matjaz Pecovnik, Director Education & Operations/COO Sara Rozman, and Director Sports Events Liam Smith.

FISU America was represented by Inés Gómez – Treasurer and America Alvarado – Secretary General; while FISU Oceania by Secretary General Donna Spethman. For The Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), Executive Assistant to the President Ahmed Farouk and IT & Operations Administrator Rhymond Muhumuza attended the meeting; together with Executive Assistant Yi Yang and Staff Member Chuanjun Gao, representing the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF).

The extensive agenda covered the essential pillars of university sport: sports events, innovation, education, student wellbeing, marketing and communication.
The dialogue was described by participants as transparent and enriching, concluding with a strong commitment to unity. A draft of the FISU Global Strategy 2031 was presented and discussed as well.
All CUSFs agreed to institutionalise the seminar as a yearly event, ensuring consistent follow-up and continued dialogue.

The exchanges led to several pivotal agreements, such as: the Dual Career promotion, event planning by assessments of resources and sustainability, the campus life and wellbeing together with FISU's Healthy Campus Programme, to better communicate internally and externally in the university sports environment, and working on the shared event calendar.

FISU Secretary General and CEO, Matthias Remund, praised the contributions, stating, "Communication must flow both ways. We must share our successes and also our challenges, as we have a common goal: the development of university sports."

The seminar stands as a testament to the power of partnership, transparency, and the shared pursuit of excellence in university sport.
EUSA, alongside its continental counterparts, will continue to champion these values in the years ahead.
