EUSA Executive Committee meets in Slovenia

The Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) met in Slovenia for its first official in-person meeting of the new mandate, following the election of the new Board in October 2025, held over two days on 20 and 21 March.

The meeting was held in Brdo pri Kranju, a historic estate and extensive parkland, and followed a structured and comprehensive agenda, addressing key organisational, sporting, and strategic matters.

The session opened with the welcome address from President Haris Pavletic, highlighting the committee’s upcoming agenda and strategic vision, continuing with the approval of the agenda, and confirmation of the minutes from previous meetings.

This opening was followed by reports from the President and the EUSA Office, alongside a review of the 2025 activities and the presentation of the Activity Plan and Event Calendar for 2026, by EUSA Secretary General and CEO Matjaz Pecovnik.

Financial matters were also addressed, including the approval of the 2025 annual accounts, the provisional budget for 2026, and updates regarding the Development and Solidarity Fund, presented by EUSA Treasurer, Francis Cirianni.

A substantial part of the meeting was dedicated to sports events, with an overview presented by the Director of Sports Events, Liam Smith.
The Executive Committee reviewed final reports and statistics from the 2025 European Universities Championships (EUC), alongside progress updates for the 2026 and 2027 editions. The organisation of EUC Combat Sports 2026 was discussed, and a report was presented - with more related news to be announced shortly.

Discussions also included the attribution of future Winter Sports events, after the evaluation of a bidding dossier presented online to the EC, and the bidding procedures for EUC 2029. Updates on the European Universities Games (EUG) covered preparations for 2026, with progress reports given by a delegation of the Organising Committee.

The session was followed by progress updates from EUG 2028 Supervision Commission, and discussions for the bidding process regarding the Games 2032.

Additional reports addressed EUSA-endorsed and partnership events, including patronage initiatives, the FISU World Cup, and the EUSA Students Run project.

Educational and social activities were also reviewed, with reports on recent events such as the EUSA Winter Forum, the EUSA Convention and EUSA-FISU Seminar, and the EUSA Forum and Awards Gala. The calendar of upcoming Executive Committee meetings was also confirmed during the presentation offered by EUSA Director of Education & Operations and COO Sara Rozman.

The agenda further included in-depth updates on ongoing EU-funded projects and applications for future initiatives, alongside reports on other projects, given by Andrej Pisl, EUSA Director of Projects and Policy.

International cooperation matters were subsequently discussed through activity reports of Member and Associated Member organisations, as well as updates on partnerships with sports federations.
Internal matters focused on governance and organisational development, including nominations for Vice-Presidents, commissions for the 2026-2029 term, and working groups. Proposals for the annual awards were also considered and voted.

The session concluded with miscellaneous discussions, providing an opportunity to address additional topics of relevance, and an internal seminar on EUSA structures, roles and responsibilities.

The two-day meeting ended with a visit to EUSA offices in Ljubljana city centre, and a reception at the Slovenian capital municipality hall, hosted by Deputy Mayor Dejan Crnek.

Through this Executive Meetings events, EUSA continued its dynamic and proactive approach to governance, ensuring the effective planning and delivery of its activities while strengthening cooperation across the European university sport community.
