EUSA Executive Committee meeting 2026-01E

The Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) convened for its second meeting of 2026, held online on July 1, focusing on the preparations for forthcoming EUSA events, organisational updates, membership growth, and strategic decisions concerning future activities.

Opening the meeting, President Haris Pavletic welcomed the Executive Committee members and highlighted the importance of the busy period ahead for European university sport. EUSA Secretary General/CEO Matjaz Pecovnik then presented office updates, informing the Executive Committee about the latest administrative activities and ongoing work supporting the Association's programmes and events.

A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to preparations for the European Universities Games 2026, which will take place in Salerno, Italy. The Executive Committee reviewed the latest organisational developments and received updates on the final stages of preparations ahead of EUSA's flagship event.

The Executive Committee also confirmed the nominations of the Supervision, Control and Arbitration Commission (SCAC) Chairs for the 2026 European Universities Championships in Combat Sports and Rowing, ensuring continued technical oversight and support for the successful delivery of both championships.

Looking ahead to future editions of the Championships, the Executive Committee conditionally attributed the organisation of the 2027 European Universities Championships in Swimming and Water Polo to Rijeka, Croatia.

Further programme development was discussed for the 2027 European Universities Championships in La Nucia, Spain, with the Executive Committee approving the inclusion of Wrestling in the event programme, pending the final approval and confirmation by the Local Organising Committee.

Members were also informed about updates to the EUSA calendar, reviewing the schedule of upcoming meetings, events and activities planned for the remainder of 2026 and beyond.

The Executive Committee approved the admission of 13 new Associated Members, further strengthening the EUSA network. With these additions, EUSA now counts 146 associated member institutions from 26 European countries, including the first Associated Member university from Denmark. One additional university was granted conditional approval, pending the fulfilment of the remaining membership requirements.

Concluding the meeting, the Executive Committee reviewed the criteria for the Association's Annual Awards and discussed the attribution of the 2026 recognitions, which acknowledge outstanding contributions and achievements in European university sport.

The meeting reaffirmed EUSA's commitment to supporting its member institutions, developing university sport across Europe, and ensuring the successful organisation of its championships, educational initiatives and flagship events.
