EUSA boost for Gender Equality

EUSA boost for Gender Equality

At the European University Sports Association, our focus and vision goes well beyond the action in various sports venues, with our commitment in various projects testament to our drive for social change. The EUSA Institute is involved in several diverse projects, ranging from education and dual career to social responsibility and equal opportunities.

GETZ – Gender Equality Toolkit for generation Z – is one of the European Union-funded projects, which the EUSA Institute is a proud partner of. The project aims to develop, deliver and evaluate an innovative educational resource specifically designed to educate Generation Z (those born between 1995 and 2009) on the issues relating to gender equality and equal opportunities in sport.

Partners in the GETZ project include Molde University College (NOR), Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (NL), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (BEL), Swedish Sports Confederation (SWE) and Croatian Olympic Committee (CRO), with the EUSA institute specifically tasked with the development of content and the promotion of the project.

Vanessa Jones presenting the GETZ project at the 2019 FISU-EUSA Seminar

At the recent FISU-EUSA Seminar held in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, Vanessa Jones from the University of Worcester – project coordinators of GETZ – was given the opportunity to present the project during a Social Responsibility workshop, where she detailed the project’s outline, focus and aims.

The three-year project is in its second year, with a unique set of lesson plans and individual resources currently being gathered to bring to life the issue of gender equality in sport in a practical, theoretical and applied way. This will then be delivered via a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to aid with the broad dissemination of the project’s intellectual outputs and results across the continent.

Audience discussions at FISU-EUSA Seminar

Following Ms Jones' presentation, the workshop audience was able to ask questions and then discuss in smaller groups the benefits of such a project and aspects which they in turn can learn from and bring back to their own individual organisations. Other related topics were also covered at the Seminar while keeping gender equality in mind, as campaigns regarding equal opportunities and sustainable development in the field of volunteering and media were also discussed.
