EUSA #BeActive celebrations in Malaga

EUSA #BeActive celebrations in Malaga

The 9th edition of the European Week of Sport (EWOS), with the #BeActive campaign introduced by the European Commission, is slowly coming to an end.

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) participated in the celebrations, this year also in the amazing setting of the European Universities Beach Sports Championship in Malaga, Spain.

The European Week of Sport is a Europe-wide initiative that encourages people of all ages and abilities to get active and stay healthy. The Week takes place every year from 23 to 30 September, and features thousands of events and activities across Europe. In addition to the #BeActive activities, additional attention is also given to the #HealthyLifestyle4All campaign, promoting healthy livestyle in a wider context, across generations.

It was an amazing experience to celebrate the European Week of Sport and to #BeActive on the beautiful beach courts of Malaga, showcasing sporting skills, fair play, teamwork and great goals and points, reached by skilful university athletes. We are proud to have been able to connect it directly also with the celebrations of the International Day of University Sport #LetsIDUS and the global Olympic initiative #LetsMove.

We are proud to have been able to connect it directly also with the celebrations of the International Day of University Sport #LetsIDUS and the global Olympic initiative #LetsMove.

We focused on the importance of sport and physical activity for everyone, and in addition to the sports competitions in beach handball and beach volleyball, activities for the volunteers, organisers and interested public were offered as well. We witnessed young people being fully committed to sport, the benefits of sport and physical activity, meanwhile inspiring other individuals to follow their steps.

Besides celebrating it every day on the official courts of the Beach Handball and Beach Volleyball Championships, we managed to also celebrate with a Beach Rugby exhibition, seeing rugby players from different ages and groups, taking part, being active, enjoying and celebrating their favourite sport.

We are especially happy to have seen young volunteers, from all over Europe participating actively in the championships, engaging themselves in different activities, working hard and mainly following the steps of the athletes while taking over the beach courts after the matches. All of them were actively learning new technics, playing for the experience and fun and most importantly showcasing that the volunteering experience is to #BeActive in different ways.

Being present on the championship, EUSA Staff had the chance to talk and engage in different activities with different teams, volunteers and staff, sharing experiences and ideas of how to make university sport and competitions, even a bigger part of the sport world. They also had a chance to play some friendly beach volleyball matches.

It was a great moment for all of us to be able to celebrate the European Week of Sport and the International Day of University Sport, celebrating university sport also during the European Universities Beach Sports Championships, giving the student athletes an opportunity to showcase their talent, effort and hardwork on European level.

The #BeActive and #LetsIDUS campaigns are a great opportunity to try new sports and activities, and to get active with friends and family. There are events and activities to suit everyone, regardless of age, ability, or interest.
