EUSA attends FIBA Europe Women's Basketball Summit Anniversary

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) was honoured to participate in the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the FIBA Europe Women’s Basketball Summit, held on July 10 in Postojna, Slovenia.

Representing EUSA at the milestone event were EUSA President Haris Pavletic and EUSA Secretary General/CEO Matjaz Pecovnik, following an invitation from FIBA Europe.

The celebration marked two decades of one of FIBA Europe's flagship initiatives dedicated to the development of women's basketball. Since its launch in 2007, the Summit has become a leading educational platform, helping shape generations of referees, coaches, players and basketball leaders through structured education, mentoring and international cooperation. The programme has played a significant role in strengthening women's basketball across Europe while demonstrating the value of long-term investment in talent development.

The event also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strong and longstanding partnership between FIBA Europe and EUSA, built on shared values of education, inclusion and athlete development. Discussions highlighted the importance of supporting dual careers, enabling student-athletes to successfully combine academic achievement with high-level sporting performance, while further strengthening the connection between university sport and the wider international basketball community.

During the celebration, EUSA representatives met with leading figures from European basketball, including Jorge Garbajosa, President of FIBA Europe, and Kamil Novak, Executive Director of FIBA Europe, expressing appreciation for their warm hospitality and continued cooperation between the two organisations.

As FIBA Europe celebrates this remarkable milestone, EUSA congratulates everyone involved in the success of the Women's Basketball Summit over the past 20 years. The initiative continues to serve as an inspiring example of how education, mentorship and international collaboration can create lasting opportunities for women in sport and contribute to the future development of European basketball.
