In May 2018, the Council of Europe's member states of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) granted the European University Sports Association (EUSA) observer status and member of the EPAS Consultative Committee.

EUSA was invited also to join the meeting of the EPAS Consultative Committee, joint with the EPAS Governing Board meeting, held in Strasbourg (FRA) on May 14 and 15, 2018.



The meeting in Strasbourg was attended on behalf of EUSA by Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General. The fist day was dedicated to governance, membership and elections.

At the meeting of the EPAS Consultative Committee, a new Bureau was elected: Ms Annette Wachter (European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation - EGLSF), Mr Jens Sejer Andersen (Play the Game), Mr Michal Buchel (International Sambo Federation - FIAS), Ms Laura Capranica (European Athlete as Student - EAS - Dual career network), Mr Carlos Cardoso (European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation - ENGSO) and Ms Paulina Tomczyk (EU Athletes).



The second day was dedicated to three pillars - ethical sport (tackling corruption and promoting good governance, social sustainability of major sports events, sport and human rights), inclusive sport (promoting diversity and fighting against discrimination, combating hate speech in sport, migrants and their integration through sport, gender equality in sport) and safe sport (martial arts and combat activities, inclusion of children and their protection in sport) and topics covering all three pillars (sport for all, evaluation visits and partnerships).

Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) provides a platform for intergovernmental sports co-operation between the public authorities of its member states. It also encourages dialogue between public authorities, sports federations and non-governmental organisations. This contributes to better governance, with the aim of making sport more ethical, more inclusive and safer.



After being granted participatory status with the Council of Europe and becoming a member of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs) in 2017, this is another important recognition for our organisation.
