European Week of Sport 2018 kicked off in Vienna
The European Week of Sport, which takes place between September 23 and 30 throughout Europe, was kicked off on the day prior, to coincide with the traditional Austrian Day of Sport, as Austria currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The opening was done in Vienna, Austria on September 22, in the presence of the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Mr Tibor Navracsics, President of the European Olympic Committees Mr Janez Kocijancic and several other key authorities.
European University Sports Association (EUSA) is one of the official partners of the European Commission for the European Week of Sport and the #beactive campaign, and was represented at the official kick-off event by Mr Wolf Fruehauf, EUSA Honorary Member.
Mr Fruehauf also met with Mr Kocijancic, as well as representatives of Unisport Austria, lead by its President Ms Hemma Angerer.
The event in Austria brings together hundreds of organisations and offers demonstrations in several sports, also offering information about the benefits of sports activities and healthy nutrition.
The European Week of Sport and the #beactive campaign are an initiative by the European Commission, promoting sport & physical activity across Europe. Together with the national coordinators and partners organisations, among them also EUSA, we’re not only making Europe healthier, but we’re also strengthening the continent based on our shared values and interests.
This year EUSA celebrates the European Week of Sport and the International Day of University Sport with the EUSA Convention and intensified #letsidus #beactive sports activities, by promoting the initiatives and encouraging our members and partners to join.
