European Sport Platform 2020 held online

European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation – ENGSO hosted their European Sport Platform event online on November 13, in cooperation with the Lithuanian Sports University.

Introductions and welcomes were done by ENGSO President Mr Stefan Bergh, Member of the cabinet of European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel Mr Guglielmo di Cola, the Rector of the Lithuanian Sports University Ms Diana Reklaitiene and Secretary General of the European Lotteries Mr Arjan van 't Veer.

The first session focused on Equality within sport – from policy to practice, moderated by the Chair of ENGSO Equality Within Sport Committee Ms Niina Toroi. Following the keynote speech by Ms Lisa Wainwright from the Sport and Recreation Alliance on Equality in practice in the UK and wider, three good practices were shared.

The second session focused on respect, sport against violence and bullying, moderated by the new ENGSO Secretary General Ms Sara Massini. After the introduction to the topic by the Chaor of ENGSO Youth Ms Ugne Chmeliauskaite, the keynote speech Effective interventions to safeguard children in sport was done by criminologist and researcher Ms Tine Vertommen. Three additional contributions, consisting of two research presentations and a good practice presentation were also featured.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) and EUSA Institute were also represented at the event, taking note of the activities and experiences of the speakers, as social responsibility activities are core to EUSA and its Institute, leading and partnering in several Erasmus+-supported projects on inclusion and equality in sport, as well as safeguarding in sport.
