EUG2022 online working meeting

Representatives of the Organising Committee of the European Universities Games Lodz 2022 (EUG2022) and the European University Sports Association (EUSA), with its Institute, met online on March 8, for an intensive working meeting.

On behalf of the EUG2022, the participants were welcomed by their main coordinator Mr Dominik Lezanski. The meeting was attended also by representatives of the three core partners in the project – Lodz University of Technology, City of Lodz, and the University Sports Association of Poland (AZS).

On behalf of EUSA and the EUSA Institute, its Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik welcomed the participants on behalf of the Executive Committee and the EUSA Office.

Online working meeting

The meeting focused on operational aspects and progress report in preparation for the event. All key areas were addressed, including Sports & Sports Venues, Accommodation & Catering, Transportation, Volunteers, Opening & Closing Ceremonies, Protocol, Rector’s Conference, Marketing, Merchandising, Media, Registration & Accreditation, Medical (COVID-19 Protocol) and Security.

The topic of the crisis in Ukraine was discussed as well, also reflecting the humanitarian aid by the local organising committee, and the decision of the EUSA Executive Committee about establishing EUSA Solidarity Fund for Ukraine, and the imposed sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

Registration for the European Universities Games Lodz 2022 is still open, both for volunteers as well as participants. Student-athletes will be able to compete in 20 sports: 3x3 Basketball, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball, Chess, Football, Futsal, Handball, Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Muaythai, Sport Climbing, Swimming, Table Tennis (including Para Table Tennis), Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo and Sitting Volleyball as a demo sport. Alongside the sport competitions, the Games focus on educational and social aspects of university sport in Europe, featuring workshops in the topics of Anti-Doping, Dual Career, Inclusion, Volunteering, as well as the Rectors' Conference.

EUSA Supervision Commission will visit Lodz in the beginning of April, and the NUSA coordination meeting is planned for mid May. The official dates of the main event between July 17 (Opening Ceremony) to July 30 (Closing Ceremony).

The event has support from key partners, including sports governing bodies, and is also co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
