EUG2020 promotion in full swing

A two-day operational meeting and inspection visit took place in Belgrade, Serbia last week followed by a successful European Universities Games 2020 promotion at the Belgrade Sports Fair, as preparations for next year’s Games continue in full swing.

EUSA Office staff, represented by EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti and Sports Assistant Ms Lea Medvesek, travelled to the Serbian capital to meet with the Games’ Organising Committee to discuss various matters involving next year’s event, with special attention given to the workings of the registration system ahead of its opening on December 1.

Also present at the meetings, held at the EUG2020 Offices in Belgrade, were four EUSA Technical Delegates including Ms Jeanine Tjin A Sioe (3x3 Basketball), Mr Tomasz Aftanski (Futsal), Mr Andreas Demetriou (Football) and Mr Davor Cipek (accompanied by Mr Goran Sprem, Karate).

Following visits to both sporting and non-sporting facilities, the Organising Committee received registration and international relations training, which was followed by meetings with project management, as well as sports and venue management organisers.

Following the next day’s meeting with the accommodation sector, meeting attendees visited the Belgrade Sports Fair, which this year was in its eighth edition, and organised under the patronage of Ministry of Sports and Youth of the Republic of Serbia.

EUG2020 was well-represented with its own stand at the Fair, where hundreds upon hundreds of visitors and passers-by were able to learn all about the fifth edition of the European Universities Games, while also being able to ask questions, test their knowledge with a quiz while also taking photos in a special frame with sports equipment.

2019 Belgrade Sports Fair

During the Fair, EUG2020 organisers were able to present the Games to the secretary generals of the national sports federations, with EUG2020 director Mr Predrag Juskovic highlighting all the work that has been done so far, Head of Sports Ms Ana Todoric presenting the history of the Universiade, University of Belgrade Rector Ms Ivanka Popovic emphasising the importance of university sport and the Games, and EUSA Sports Manager Mr Alilti speaking of the immense progress made in the organisational process so far.

A total of 5 500 participants are expected to descend upon Belgrade for next year’s Games, which will take place from July 12-25 and will include 21 different sporting disciplines.
