EUG Winter 2028 Erzurum Online Meeting June 2026

Preparations for the European Universities Winter Games 2028 continue to progress through regular coordination between the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the local organisers.

An online meeting brought together representatives of EUSA, the Turkiye University Sports Federation (TUSF) and key members of the future Organising Committee to review the current status of preparations and discuss the next steps. 

Representing the Turkish delegation were Mutlu Turkmen, President of the Turkiye University Sports Federation; Atakan Alaftargil, Vice President of the Turkish Ski Federation and Head of the Technical Committee; Mehmet Sirin Guler, Director of the National Winter Sports Championships; and Mehmet Yonal, Secretary General of TUSF.

On behalf of EUSA, the meeting was attended by Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General/CEO; Liam Smith, Director of Sports Events; Miha Zvan, Sports Manager; and Salvatore Sisca, Head of Media and Communications.

The meeting covered a broad range of organisational topics related to the preparations for the Games. Discussions focused on communications and branding, including official event terminology, communication channels, the development of the website, email setup, and social media presence. Participants also reviewed the competition schedule and overall event programme to ensure alignment with the standard EUSA event format.

The proposed competition venues and sports programme were presented, including discussions on optional sports. The meeting also outlined the next preparation milestones, including observer activities at upcoming EUSA events, future commission visits, and the inspection visit scheduled for February 2027

The online meeting marked another important milestone in the preparations for the European Universities Winter Games 2028, reaffirming the strong cooperation between EUSA, TUSF and the future Organising Committee as planning progresses towards delivering a successful international university winter sports event in Erzurum.
