Another exciting day unfolded at the European Universities Games 2026 as the first medals in Badminton were awarded, and the highly anticipated 3x3 Basketball tournament officially got underway.

Meanwhile, competitions continued across the venues, with Beach Volleyball and Rugby 7s advancing towards their decisive stages, while Handball and Tennis concluded their preliminary rounds. The Football players enjoyed a scheduled rest day ahead of the knockout phase.

The Badminton team competition reached its conclusion with the medal ceremonies celebrating the first champions of the tournament. Following several days of exciting team matches, the gold medal was claimed by the University of Strasbourg (FRA) after a thrilling final against the University of Bordeaux (FRA). The podium is completed by the third place winners, German Sport University Cologne (GER) and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (NOR). 

Alongside the sporting achievements, the Best Battle Cry Award celebrated the enthusiasm and team spirit displayed by the participating universities, highlighting the unique atmosphere that characterises the Badminton competition. The Best Battle Cry award was deservedly won by German Sport University Cologne (GER).

From tomorrow, the focus shifts to the individual disciplines as athletes begin competing in the singles and doubles tournaments, where a new set of European university champions will be crowned.

3x3 Basketball welcomed its first matches, adding to the EUG 2026 programme a highly popular and spectacular sport. The 24 Men’s teams and 20 Women’s teams are now playing in the preliminary phase, already delivering exciting contests and offering a glimpse of the intensity expected throughout the tournament.

The Beach Volleyball players gave battle on the sand of the UNISA Campus Baronissi. The Top 16 teams continue their journey towards the podium, battling on each point supported by the cheering of many fans.

The Rugby 7s competition continued at Stadio Dirceu in Eboli, where teams fought through another day of fast-paced encounters.

With the tournament nearing its conclusion, attention now turns to tomorrow's decisive matches, when the medals and European Universities Games titles will be awarded in both the men's and women's competitions.

Tennis competition continues to deliver high-quality action, with players showcasing precision, consistency and determination on every court. As the tournament progresses, each match brings new challenges, with intense baseline rallies, powerful serves and composed performances under pressure, keeping the race for the knockout stages wide open.

Handball teams continue to battle for crucial victories, producing fast-paced encounters filled with quick transitions, strong defensive displays and clinical finishing. With every point becoming increasingly important, the competition is gathering momentum as universities fight to secure their place in the next phase of the tournament.
