At the European Universities Games 2026, medal matches took centre stage in several sports.

On July 22, champions were crowned in Beach Handball, Padel and Table Tennis, while Basketball reached its halfway point towards the finals, and its players enjoyed a well-deserved rest day while getting ready for the play-off phase.

After three days of spectacular action on the sand, one of the most dynamic sports on the EUG programme has come to an end: the Beach Handball tournament has named its winners.

In the Men’s tournament, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (HUN) defeated the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUN) in an exciting gold-medal match to claim the title of European Universities Champion. In the bronze-medal match, the University of Zagreb (CRO) overcame the University of Salerno (ITA) to secure third place and complete the podium.

In the men's competition, the Fair Play Award was assigned to the team representing the German Sport University of Cologne (GER) for its outstanding respect, integrity and team spirit. The Best Goalkeeper award was given to Gonzalo Soares from the University of Porto (POR), while the Most Valuable Player went to Domagoj Kulis from the University of Zagreb (CRO). The Top Scorer award was won by Zalan Szalay from the Hungarian University of Sport Science (HUN).

MVP of the women's tournament is Katja Hunjadi from the University of Zagreb (CRO). The Top Scorer title was won by Sofia Gonsalves from the University of Porto (POR), and Eva Calvo Munoz was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament. University of Eszterhazy Karoly Catholic University (HUN) won the Fair Play Award.

In the Women’s tournament, the final saw Karoli Gaspar University of Reformed Church (HUN) against University of Zagreb (CRO), winning the gold medal after a spectacular and entertaining final. In the bronze medal match, the University of Granada (ESP) against the University of Porto (POR) claimed the victory, completing the podium. 

To present the medals and awards were representatives of the institutional partners and local authorities, together with Ivana Ertlova, EUSA Competition Chair for Beach Handball and EC Member, and Marco Trespidi, EUSA Technical Delegate for Beach Handball.

At the UNISA Campus Baronissi, not far from the sand of the Beach Handball, Padel athletes fought for a medal in the Padel House. With the level of play increasing throughout the tournament, the finals showed excellent matches, providing a fitting conclusion to an outstanding competition.

In the women’s tournament, the University of Pablo de Olavide (ESP) prevailed over the University of Barcelona (ESP) in a captivating gold-medal match. The University of Valencia (ESP) secured bronze after a thrilling third-place match, completing an all-Spanish podium.

The University of Barcelona (ESP) competed against fellow Spanish team, the University of Valencia (ESP) in a thrilling match, resulting with Universtiy of Valencia winning the gold medal. The match for the bronze medal in the men's competition saw the University of Bordeaux (FRA) facing Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (NOR), with the University of Bordeaux claiming the bronze.

To present the medals and awards were representatives of the institutional partners and local authorities, together with Andreas Csonka, EUSA Competition Chair for Padel and EC Member, and Ines Carvalho, EUSA Technical Delegate for Padel.

After the team events opened the Table Tennis competition, deciding the first European Universities Games 2026 titles, today, Table Tennis Champions in singles and doubles tournaments were crowned, bringing another highly competitive tournament to a close.

In the double men’s tournament, Artur Grela and Szymon Kolasa from Zamojski Academy (POL) won in a captivating final against David Molnar and David Szantosi from the University of Pecs (HUN), while Jakub Stecyszyn and Jan Zandecki from Zamojski Academy (POL) and Goncalo Gomes and Rafael Kong from the University of Porto (POR) secured bronze, completing the podium.

In the women’s tournament, Lea Paulin and Katarina Strazar from the University of Ljubljana (SLO) and Marta Cosic and Dora Cosic from the University of Zagreb battled for the title in a thrilling match. The University of Zagreb won the final, claiming gold. Bronze medals went to Ines Matos and Maria Ines Gonsalves from the University of Porto (POR) and Leili Mostafavi and Agathe Avezou from the University of Paris (FRA).

In the men’s singles tournament, the final saw two student-athletes from the same university competing for the gold medal, Jakub Stecyszyn and Szymon Kolasa from Zamojski Academy (POL), with Szymon Kolasa securing first place on the podium. David Michna from Zamojski Academy (POL) and David Szantosi from University of Pecs (HUN) will bring home well-deserved bronze medals, rounding out the podium.

In the women’s singles tournament, we saw Dora Cosic from the University of Zagreb defeat Agathe Avezou from the University of Paris (FRA) in an action-packed final, claiming gold. Bronzes were awarded to Marta Vukelic from the University of Zagreb (CRO) and Leili Mostafavi from the University of Paris (FRA).

As the EUG 2026 moves deeper into the competition schedule, every match carries greater significance. With champions about to be crowned in several sports, the excitement continues to build across the venues in Salerno!
